Intensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents (IDBT-A)

Intensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents (IDBT-A) is a 12-month skills-based program for adolescents age 13-17 who struggle with complex and pervasive emotion-based problems such as self-harm, chronic suicidal ideation, and interpersonal difficulties.

Traditional comprehensive IDBT is based on a skills-training model that balances acceptance vs. change. In IDBT-A, adolescents learn skills to help them stay in the present moment, get through a crisis without making a situation worse, regulate emotions, and ask for what they want and need while maintaining and improving relationships.

IDBT-A is similar to traditional comprehensive IDBT but is adapted to include parents or guardians who can attend their own skills group in order to support their teen.

Services provided:

  • Weekly individual therapy
  • Weekly multi-family skills training groups
  • Time-limited phone coaching
  • Family therapy as needed
  • IDBT consultation team
